Jennifer is currently on the road promoting her new album Pleasant Detour and is shaking things up all over the state. Her debut single, "It Feels Like You're Still Here," (a duet with Cory Morrow) went all the way to #2 on the Texas Music Chart. She is the first woman to crack the top 5 on that chart and she did it with her debut single! Fitts can be seen at venues such as Poor David's Pub, the White Elephant, Blancos, the Firehouse, the Continental Club (Houston), and Fitzgerald's and has had the pleasure of opening up for acts such as Pat Green, Cory Morrow, Cross Canadian Ragweed, The Bastard Sons of Johnny Cash, Harris and Ryden, Johnny Lee, Clay Blaker, Tracy Lawrence, Tracy Byrd, the Hollisters, the Derailers, and Chris Wall. Seeing Fitts perform live is always a treat. Her mixture of soul, artistry, and pure heart are reminiscent of the kind of female country singers that meant what they sang and sang what they meant. A Jennifer Fitts performance is totally sincere and makes you wonder why singing with conviction has gone out of style. Producer Clay Blaker, was able to capture the spirit of Jennifer's live shows on Pleasant Detour. Jennifer penned all of the songs. When you listen to Pleasant Detour, Fitts takes you on a tour of Texas stopping at every watering hole and juke joint in search of romance and adventure. Along for the ride are Cory Morrow, teaming up with Fitts on the duet "It Feels Like You're Still Here", and David Lee Garza, adding a little tejano flair with his accordion on "It Was Only the Wine." Things got started for Fitts musically about five years ago while she was living in Austin. Spurred on by a combination of heartbreak and homesickness, Fitts began some of her first attempts at songwriting. Six months later, she was back home in Houston forming her first band, blues based Utopia Bridge. Utopia Bridge gained a following once Jennifer figured out how to book the band. With no prospects on the horizon, little experience and no demo tape, Jennifer figured out how to get her band seen by organizing an audition on her birthday. The band played for free, lots of people came out to check out the band and eat birthday cake, and the club owner booked them for another gig! After that the band gained momentum playing at clubs such as Billy Blues and even landing a weekly gig at underground music Mecca, the Last Concert Café. But after a while the band seemed to grow restless. Fitts had started writing more original tunes and she was leaning more and more towards the country sound. Other members didn't feel that was the direction they wanted to go. So they parted ways amicably and Jennifer went on to found the Jennifer Fitts Band. That
was three years ago and since then Jennifer has been trudging full speed
ahead, pounding the pavement and singing her songs for anyone who will
listen. After several years of gigging under her belt and more than
a little dues paying, her debut CD, Pleasant Detour, has been well received
and is taking Jennifer down the right path.
